EUROCALL is a professional organisation for the promotion of innovative research, development and practice in the area of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL) in education and training. EUROCALL conferences bring together educators, researchers, administrators, materials developers, government representatives, vendors of hardware and software, and others interested in the field of CALL and TELL.
EUROCALL 2008 particularly welcomes papers focusing on integrating new technologies into language learning. Presentations focusing on any other aspect of CALL research, development and practice are also welcomed, especially innovative uses both of established and of leading-edge technologies. All submissions are subject to a blind refereeing process.

BC Germany International Conference: Languages for Europe

British Council Germany would like to draw your attention to its annual international “Languages for Europe” conference, to be held in Berlin on 1-2 February 2008.
The title of the 2008 conference is “Language learning in a multilingual Europe”.
The following sub-themes will be covered:
- Languages as a tool for work
- Language learning strategies and lifelong learning
- Languages, mobility and migration
The conference is aimed at policy makers, researchers, teacher trainers, business trainers and education managers of modern foreign languages in Germany and other European
countries.
It should be of interest to representatives from all educational sectors: primary, secondary, tertiary, vocational, adult education and in-company training.
Please note that the event aims to support the development and implementation of language policy. It will not focus on teaching materials and tips for the classroom.
The conference offers a platform to share visions for the future of language learning and learn about relevant research results and their implications for future education policy. Examples of existing good practice will also be presented.
In addition to keynote sessions, talks, workshops and discussions there will be ample opportunities for networking on an informal level. Speakers and participants from all over Europe will have the chance to share information, catch up with existing and meet new contacts and take home insights and ideas to implement in their working context.

NMC Publishes Results of Educators in Second Life Survey
The New Media Consortium (NMC) conducted a survey of more than 200 educators using Second Life, a virtual world, which is becoming more and more popular among teachers. The results were published a few days ago:

A couple of interesting points from the results:
- over half of the respondents are involved with education-related activities in Second Life
- two-thirds are planning new educational projects or activities in Second Life
- well over half of them see high or fairly high potential for education in Second Life
The sample is clearly biased towards the NMC (over half of them are affiliated with an NMC member organization), but this is understandable as it’s only logical that the people they reach to take the survey are somehow related to them. Altogether, very interesting results to a very well-conducted survey.
Applications for Full Scholarships to WorldCALL 2008
WorldCALL 2008, to be held in Fukuoka, Japan from August 5-8, 2008 announces the availability of full scholarships to the congress, including transportation, fees, lodging and a stipend for miscellaneous expenses. In keeping with our policy of “Equity and Access” these scholarships are only available to participants from countries that are not considered to be “Higher Income Economies” by the World Bank. The scholarships are thus based not only on merit but also on financial need. An accepted presentation is not a requirement for a scholarship award.
We encourage all CALL scholars and practitioners, including graduate students in qualifying countries, to apply. Further information and the application form are available at: http://wc3scholar.info. The deadline for the receipt of applications is December 31, 2007.
